1934 Buck Rogers Dream

7″ x 14″ Oil on canvas panel framed

This small painting is based on a photo that I took at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in Washington DC. My photograph was of a small tin toy sold in 1934. Children were playing and dreaming of space travel even before it was possible.

This painting is part of the current show, “Dreams” at Rail Walk Studios and Gallery in Salisbury, NC. The exhibit includes many paintings and photographs that are realistic, imaginary or abstract. There are also handmade Dream Catchers by one of the Rail Walk artists. The gallery is open to the public on Saturdays, 10AM-2PM. You are welcome to come see the exhibit and visit with the Rail Walk artists. Hope to see you there.

In for a Landing

18″ x 14″ oil on a canvas panel

This is a studio painting. I used an image that I took at a plein air paint out. I like to put images on my monitor and pretend that I am painting outside. There were many swallowtail butterflies enjoying this zinnia flower bed.

On the Edge

On the Edge 10x8

10″ x 8″ Oil on panel

I am staying home as much as possible.  This is a plein air painting of the edge of the woods seen from our deck.  The Dogwoods are in bloom now.  We can see back into the woods, but not for long.  The green leaves are filling in.  Take care and stay well.

Church & Monroe

Church & Monroe 11x14

11″ x 14″ Oil on panel

This is one of the lovely homes in Salisbury, NC.  I blocked the painting in on site.  I stopped before it was finished, because I was too cold to continue.  I finished it in the comfort of my studio pretending to be onsite.

Country House

Country House 18x24

18″ x 24″ oil on gallery wrap canvas

This is an image of a commission painting for a client of a grandparent’s home in the mountains of North Carolina.  It is painted from a photo reference that the client provided.

Ms Captiva

Ms Captiva 8x10

8″ x 10″ oil on a panel

This is a plein air study of an old boat that was sitting in a lot beside the Port Sanibel Marina in Florida.

Sanibel Lighthouse

Sanibel Lighthouse 9x12

9″ x 12″ Oil on panel

This is another plein air painting from Florida.  This view of the lighthouse is from the beach at Sanibel Island.  It is one of those places that is equally beautiful in any direction.  Plus the Sanibel-Captiva Plein Air painters are a very friendly and welcoming group.  I hope to paint with them again next winter.  Notice the osprey nest on top of the chimney.

The Lakes

The Lakes 9x12

9″ x 12″ oil on panel

This is a plein air painting that I painted at Lakes Park, Fort Myers, Florida.  I enjoyed painting with three different plein air groups while visiting the area during January and February.  Our Plein Air Carolina group has cancelled paint outs for a couple weeks.  But I have continued to paint safely on my own.  Hope we will be able to paint together again soon, and hope all my Florida friends are well.  I just updated my website with some of my new Florida paintings, http://www.tanglewoodbrushstrokes.com.

Wild Poppies

Wild Poppies 24x30

24″ x 30″ Oil on a gallery wrap canvas with painted edges

This is a studio painting.  I combined two photos.  These hillside poppies caught my eye when I was taking a walk near Glacier National Park.  Mixed in with the poppies were other wildflowers in shades of violet.

Mingo Falls

Mingo Falls 36x24

36″x 24″ Oil on gallery wrap canvas with painted edges

This is an oil painting painted in my studio from a photo reference.  Mingo Falls was near our campsite in Cherokee, NC.  I found it impossible for me to actually capture its’ sparkling beauty.
