1934 Buck Rogers Dream

7″ x 14″ Oil on canvas panel framed

This small painting is based on a photo that I took at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in Washington DC. My photograph was of a small tin toy sold in 1934. Children were playing and dreaming of space travel even before it was possible.

This painting is part of the current show, “Dreams” at Rail Walk Studios and Gallery in Salisbury, NC. The exhibit includes many paintings and photographs that are realistic, imaginary or abstract. There are also handmade Dream Catchers by one of the Rail Walk artists. The gallery is open to the public on Saturdays, 10AM-2PM. You are welcome to come see the exhibit and visit with the Rail Walk artists. Hope to see you there.

Hydrangea Bouquet

24″ x 36″ oil on gallery wrap canvas with painted edges

This is a painting that I did in my studio. I used a photo of a smaller painting of mine as a reference. I was thinking that it might look nice in my dining room.

Hatteras Sunset

24″ x 36″ Oil on stretched canvas wrap with painted edges

This is a studio painting. I used a friend’s photo for a reference. The photo was taken from Hatteras Island on the outer banks of North Carolina. Hatteras Island offers beautiful sunrises and sunsets. You can see a ferry in the distance.

Taylor

Two commission paintings, 20″x16″ oil on linen

The first was painted in 2008. I called it “Poppy Princess.” I just completed the second. Taylor is a lovely young lady. She is currently in college. I want to thank their grandmother for giving me the opportunity to paint their portraits. It was challenging and great fun.

I used as reference a small black and white photo that my mother or my father had taken of my brother on the farm. He loved that calf.

The Workshop

8″ x 10″ oil on linen panel

I painted this at a Plein Air Carolina paint out. It was on private property near my home in Rockwell. There were several old buildings. This one was used as a workshop. I like how it was decorated with old license plates.

Yadkin Park in March

9″ x 12″ Oil on Panel

Plein Air painting season has begun in Salisbury, NC. This is my painting from our paint out at Yadkin Park last week. As you can see the trees are late this year. No green yet. However, it was a beautiful day to be outside enjoying nature. Plein Air Carolina is participating in the Rowan County Creek Week this year. We will have an exhibit of plein air paintings at the Rail Walk Gallery in August. The Rowan County Creek Week is to celebrate our many waterways and their importance to everyone. It is important to keep them clean and free from litter and pollution.

Orchid Dance

12″ x 24″ oil painting on a gallery wrap canvas with painted edges

This is a studio painting of white orchids that I painted from life in my home studio. I hope to get back to my studio at Rail Walk Gallery in Salisbury, North Carolina soon. I have some ideas that I would like to try on larger canvases.
