Azaleas in Yellow

Azaleas in Yellow 10x8

10″ x 8 ” Oil on linen panel

I went to Hurley Park in Salisbury, NC to do a simple tree study.  But I saw these wonderful yellow azaleas.  So my tree study turned into an azalea study.  Just love all the spring flowers and the fresh greens of spring.

9″ x 12″ Oil on Panel

Plein Air Carolina painted at Hurley Park in Salisbury, NC last Friday.  Some of the tress were in bloom.  It was good to be outside painting again on such a beautiful day.

Carrigan Farms Rock Quarry

11″ x 14″ Oil on panel

This is a beautiful location that is new to me.  As the sun rose it lit up the rocks jutting out in the quarry.  The painting was mostly painted on site and then finished in my studio.

Hurley Park Late Summer

hurley-late-summer-12x9

12″ x 9″ Oil on Panel

A plein air painting from Hurley Park in Salisbury.  It was tweaked a bit in my studio.  I find that I sometimes need to revisit a painting to adjust the values and colors to my liking.

Chandelle Farms Pond Reflections

Chandelle Farms Pond Reflections 11x14

11″ x 14″ Oil on Panel

This is my second painting for the NC Open Plein Air event in Salisbury.  I was very happy that it received an Honorable Mention.  Perhaps I should have called it “A Study in Green.”

Gold Hill Crepes

Gold Hill Crepes 11x14

11″ x 14″ Oil on Panel

This is my Gold Hill painting for the NC Open Plein Air event last weekend.  I tweaked it a bit in my studio this week adding more splashes of color.  Gold Hill is a painter’s paradise about five minutes from my home.

Spencer Summer II

Spencer Summer II 14x11

14″ x 11″ Oil on canvas panel

This is a studio painting.  It was just to hot to paint on site so I took photos and worked from my computer monitor in my studio pretending to be on location.  This was easier in the sense that the sunlight/shadows weren’t changing.  Also I could take my time painting in air conditioning.  However, I really do prefer to paint outside.  Guess it is the challenge.

Lavender in Bloom

Lavender in Bloom 9x12

9″ x 12″ Oil on panel

The lavender is in bloom.  Members of Plein Air Carolina were invited to paint at a local farm.  It was very hot, but I knew I couldn’t miss it.  I did enjoy a cool lavender lemonade while painting.
